Welcome!

The purpose of this Blog is to introduce family and interested parties to the Berolzheimer Family Genealogy Project, administered by Adrienne Watkin and sponsored by Michael G. Berolzheimer. Our goal is to identify new Berolzheimer family members to add to the Tree, as well as to fill in details of family members already in the Tree.

The Tree is currently in the construction stage.

Family Origins

The First Recorded Ancestors

DAVID (d 1/1) was the earliest known ancestor. He was probably one of the many Jews expelled from their homes in the principality of Pfalz-Neuburg in the 17th century. Many of these refugees assumed the name of their former homeland.

SOLOMON DAVID (sd 2/1) came from the Neuburger border town of Möhren in the margravet of Ansbach where he obtained the right to settle in Markt Berolzheim. There he purchased a small house for 56 florins. He had three children: DAVID SALOMON (Branch 1 sd 3/1), a daughter (Branch 2 sd 3/2), and MOSES SALOMON (Branch 3 sd 3/3). Solomon David died in 1694.

BRANCH 3 - the focus of this family history

MOSES SALOMON (sd 3/3) was the third child of Solomon David. He was the town supervisor in Berolzheim. In 1692 he married Dolz, the daughter of Hirsch Männlein, in Markt Berolzheim. They had three children: DAVID MOSES (ms 4/2), daughter SARAH (ms 4/3), and SALOMON LÖW MOSES (sm 4/4). Moses Salomon died 11 Oct 1745. His tombstone was identified and transcribed in the old cemetery in Pappenheim; however, the stone was lost during the stormy winter of 1928-29.

DAVID MOSES (ms 4/2), the first child of Moses Salomon, married Gütel. In 1742, he sold acreage to Georg Schaeffer and left two-story house No. 87 and barn valued at 1500 florin to his two sons.  He died in 1762; Gütel died 27 May 1774.
